Huawei LUNA2000 Smart String battery storage — installed, grid-connected, and engineered for frequency reserve markets worldwide. The energy anchor of every Riveon Group site.
The Dalsbruk BESS is designed for 18 MWh total capacity. Phase 1 — a 1C-rated 6 MW / 6 MWh system — is installed, grid-connected and co-located with the datacenter on the Finnish 10 kV distribution grid.
Deployment in progress — 6 MW / 6 MWh of the 18 MWh platform are installed, grid-connected, and in commissioning at Dalsbruk.
Unlike conventional central-inverter systems, the Smart String architecture manages each battery string independently — maximising usable capacity and eliminating the barrel effect.
Each battery string has its own power conversion and BMS. If one string degrades, the others continue at full capacity — no barrel effect, no system-wide derating.
Pack-level liquid cooling keeps cells within optimal temperature range, critical for high-cycle reserve-market duty in any climate. Extends cell life and maintains rated efficiency year-round.
Predictive state-of-health estimation, cell-level anomaly detection, and optimised charge/discharge profiles — managed through Huawei's cloud-connected battery management platform.
Lithium Iron Phosphate cells offer inherent thermal stability, no cobalt dependency, and the high cycle tolerance that FCR duty demands. Designed for 6,000+ full cycles over the system's lifetime.
Containerised, outdoor-rated (IP55), and modular from rack to system level. Capacity can be extended without replacing existing units — the architecture scales with the site.
Pack-level fire detection and suppression, cell-to-pack thermal runaway prevention, and full electrical isolation at string level. Meets IEC 62619 and IEC 63056 safety standards.
The BESS platform is designed for frequency containment reserve (FCR) and manual frequency restoration reserve (mFRR) markets — and their equivalents in any grid. At Dalsbruk, commissioning targets the Finnish reserve markets first.
Frequency Containment Reserve for normal and disturbance conditions. The system's sub-200 ms response time and 1C power rating make it a natural fit for continuous frequency regulation.
Manual Frequency Restoration Reserve provides larger activation blocks on request. The 18 MW target power capacity allows meaningful participation in any balancing market.
The BESS is orchestrated through the NEXXUS EnergySuite, which optimises dispatch against real-time market prices, grid frequency signals, and co-located compute load profiles.
Huawei LUNA2000 containers on-site at Dalsbruk, fully assembled and racked.
Connected to the Finnish 10 kV distribution grid. Electrical infrastructure tested and energised.
Final commissioning and grid-operator approval process in progress. System is installed, grid-connected, and ready for dispatch.
Following commissioning approval, the BESS will begin active participation in the local reserve markets.
Battery storage paired with compute is a powerful combination: grid services revenue, renewable arbitrage, and improved site economics. Let's explore the opportunity.
